Natural Art: Natures Blessing
Nature Porn - while artists can create wonderful and imaginative pieces there is nothing that compares with the awesome originality of mother nature.
On a recent holiday I went hiking with my family in the mountains. The day was overcast and the mountains were covered in mist. A morning shower, often referred to as 'morning glory' by the old timers, had left the forest floor sprinkled with sparkling rain drops and the leaves on the trees looking green and refreshed. Of course this made climbing fairly hazzardes as the terrain was steep and rocky under foot. But being intrepid adventurers we persevered and made it to the top where we shared a light lunch after appreciating the amazing 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside.
I collected an assortment of leaves and berries and flowers on the descent. As you can see there were all the different shapes, colours and textures that you could imagine on offer. A veritable smorgasbord on offer to the avid nature enthusiast. At the picnic table in the small enclosed area at the entrance to the park I created an outdoor art installation hoping to encourage the next hiker to look for the beauty in surroundings not just delight in the physical challenge of the climb.
It's winter in Australia at the moment and I hope to be able to go back to this volcanic region in Spring or Summer and see the difference a season makes to the flora in the area.
When I returned home I decided I would bring some of the outdoors into my indoor space and created a Winter Nature Table. I enjoyed the process of finding and displaying all the elements, both natural and man made. Every time I rest my eyes on the table or light the candles, I recall the joy of the mountain hike and feel blessed.
I loved to hear any special moments you have experienced in nature or if you have a favourite season/natural element.
